Hey, Kids!
Today I will be reviewing the August Allure Beauty Box.
For 15.00 per month you will receive a box containing 5 or more deluxe sized beauty products from today’s most luxurious brands.
One of my favorite things about the Allure Beauty Box is how carefully it is curated and the awesome little mini mag that is included in each box. It gives excellent descriptions and tips for each item in the box with a descriptive and down to earth introduction to the boxes content. I love the beauty directors honest representation of each product.
*If you read my June review you will notice that it is a bit different than that of this and last months. What was once Allure/Sample Society and affiliated with BeautyBar.com has underwent a change and has now been rebranded as the ‘Allure Beauty Box‘. I am still trying to understand the changeover myself as I had no knowledge of such a change taking place. I noticed that my shipping notification was different and though the sites have all changed everything billed and shipped as before without issue. The above link (in blue) is the new and correct link to join. The cost is the same as it was prior and the content for both July and August under the new branding were absolutely fab!
The Beauty Box:
The Products:
Allure & Butter London Arm Candy Collection Nail Polish in Violet’s Revenge 0.2 oz bottle:
You can shop the full Allure and Butter London Collection here which includes a 4 piece mini polish set including Violet’s revenge for $30.00. Violet’s Revenge is described as an electric violet and is a 7 free formula. (nice) It’s an excellent polish and I adore the color. The polish went on smooth and easily and had mega shine. I created the manicure above using two coats of the polish and the julep oxygen performance top coat. (I used mini flash tattoos for my accent nails prior to the top coat. It was super easy and I love how it worked out)
Bumble and Bumble Grooming Cream: .5 oz tube:
This product is described as a light weight styling cream created to smooth frizz, boost waves in slightly wavy hair and add texture to fine hair. The product card mentions that it is too light of a product for thick curls or coarse hair. I have very thick, long, naturally wavy, dry hair and I found this to be true. It did; however, work to smooth my hair when dry. I applied a small amount to the ends of my hair and it improved the feel and appearance. When I used it on my damp hair I still required the addition of my Moroccan [Argan] oil.
Mail + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo 1oz bottle:
This products is described as a gentle clarifying shampoo (that does lather) with a knockout scent. I was in need of a good clarifying shampoo as I am in the pool, water and other elements daily. I use lots of oils, creams and dry shampoos as well. One issue I have with trying sample sized shampoos is that my hair is so long and thick I have to use a lot of shampoo to get it through all of my hair usually resulting in a single use of the product I sample. I used this shampoo on my hair a couple days ago and I loved the scent so much. If you have ever used the super minty soap line from Bliss spa, it smells just like that. It’s very invigorating and uplifting. It did make my hair feel very clean. Whether it will improve my hair with continued use I am unsure at this point but I liked it at first try enough that I have purchased a full sized bottle to continue using. I have loved all of the Malin +Goetz Products that I have tried in the past so why not?!
Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner mini:
This product is described as a Best of Beauty and Breakthrough Award Winning Gel eyeliner in an easy to use pen. This product has been around for a bit now but I have yet to sample or purchase it until now. I’m glad I finally received on to try out. My Experience: First off; I discovered while trying to figure out how to use this liner that this sample size does not have the dial at the bottom of the pen to twist that releases the product. (I had to just squeeze it out in this version, resulting in too much product.) I removed the excess at the tip by wiping it on my opposite hands finger. I then applied my eyeliner with the remaining product on the flexible, slanted, rubber tip and then dipping the tip in the excess product on my finger to finish up my look. I love gel liners and found that this applicator definitely made for a smoother application without the skipping or irritating my eye, close to the lash line when using an angled brush. The photo above is me after my first trial usage of this eyeliner with a major winged eyeliner look. I did have a few issues getting used to this product but I do think that my main issue was simply due to the sample size and that the full size will distribute the product as it should. I definitely plan to purchase a full sized version now that I have sampled it.
Nuance Salma Hayek AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream .265 oz:
This product is described as a medium weight facial moisturizer packed with skin-protecting antioxidants for softening and plumping dry skin without feeling heavy. This product has a really nice, light scent that I really liked. I have skin that is pretty finicky toward creams, moisturizers and other facial products so when I am on a routine that is making my skin look great, I do not like to stray from it or introduce something new to the mix. Upon opening this product and smelling it I rubbed a small amount on my hand. It felt silky an smooth, absorbed quickly and I was surprised how much better it made my ultra dry, rough hands look right away. If anything, it has excellent moisturizing properties. I put this cream on my nightstand and have been using it on my neck and throat before bed in the evenings. It’s always good to have a product to give extra attention that area.
Avène Eau Thermale Cleanance Gel Cleanser 1.69 oz:
This product is described as a gentle, non-stripping, foaming cleanser for oily and acne prone skin with an appealing marine scent. I actually use this product already and I love it, so I was happy to have an additional bottle for travel. Lately I have been using Nip+fab glycolic fix pads followed by micellar water for my basic cleansing routine. On the days where I’ve worn a lot of face makeup or I am just plain oily feeling I use this as my first step. It gets my skin shiny clean, feels and smells great and does not over dry it like other anti acne products. It’s gentle. The products lasts forever too b/c you only need a very small amount of the product. Avène products are wonderful. I definitely recommend trying them.
