Hi everyone! I apologize for the delay. I’ve been quite busy but still have so many new products, beauty hauls and September Subscription Boxes to review for you. I promise they will all be coming within the next week + as I want to make sure I can properly try and review each and every product!
Today; however, I have 3 fabulous new and 1 somewhat new (to the US) products to review for you that I am certain many are curious about so…let’s get started!
GlamGlow Pout Mud
Elizabeth and James (black) Dry Shampoo
Becca Backlight Priming Filter
Tony Moly Egg Pore Tightening and Cooling Pack
Up first is the new GlamGlow Pout Mud fizzy lip exfoliating treatment and wet lip balm. I could not wait to get my hands on this product and purchased as soon as it was available. I love GlamGlow and when I first heard they were developing a product for the lips I had hoped it would be something totally unique and innovative like their other products! For me, they did not disappoint. I am obsessed with this product! My lips are perpetually chapped, rough, dry and I am on a constant quest to find something to smooth them and give them that soft pout worthy of (gah) matte lipstick! I’ve tried plenty of lip scrubs (which are basically all the same) followed by some pretty great balms but nothing did the trick quite like this.
The ‘routine’ begins with the Poutmud Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment:
It basically looks like your average lip scrub, but it isn’t. You start off just as you would your typical lip scrub, massaging it in to your lips for 5-10 seconds (it has a minty taste to it but isn’t meant to ‘lick off your lips’ like some scrubs; it’s a bit odd if you get too much of it in your mouth!) after your ‘pre-exfoliation’ massage product with a bit of water to activate the fizzy renewing action. -to me it felt slightly fizzy/bubbly and a bit tingly (I would not suggest using on severely cracked lips or any lip condition in need of a medicated product as it may sting) -it then turned in to somewhat of a smooth oily type substance that made my lips instantly feel soft and smooth. Rinse product off with warm water when finished and pat dry. [This portion of the product is meant for using 2-3 times per week] On to step 2.
Poutmud Wet Lip Balm Treatment:
This is the lip balm portion of the duo and is to be applied following the scrub treatment; pretty self explanatory. The balm is a clear balm, kind of slick and a bit more thin in consistency than other pot balms I have used. When applied the consistency on your lips is a bit different as well. It is also slightly minty, has a nice shine and is extremely emollient, lubricating. It feels a bit slick and has a cooling sensation that comforts your lips without being sticky, waxy or too thick: it feels amazing on. It is the perfect follow up to the step 1 treatment but can be used at any time and feels great as a lip treatment [that actually works] on its own as well! I highly recommend this product to anyone who is contemplating its purchase!
Elizabeth and James Dry Shampoo:
This is another product I had been waiting [impatiently] to become available. I am a huge fan of the Nirvana Line, love both white and black. I love the black on it’s own and I love the white to layer with the black to change the fragrance to an almost sweet tobacco like scent. This, of course, was one of the reasons I was so excited about this product. I am a big user of dry shampoos and the majority of them have some sort of strong, often odd, fragrance of their own. How great is it that I can use a coordinating scent in my hair and still get the results I receive from my other dry shampoos?! The results: In my opinion it performed as well as any of my dry shampoos do; volumized my hair at the roots, freshened it up, eliminated any oil etc. For those curious, it does have a bit of a white residue, which turns some of the darker haired girls off (dry shampoo is technically meant to be brushed through your hair to work the powdery substance through) I; being blonde, actually like the powdery dry shampoos as they help conceal root growth! The scent: Is it identical to the original scent, not quite, but I didn’t expect it to be as the many other components that go in to the product, just like with a lotion or a shower gel: Close but not identical. [I mention this b/c Ive heard some review it poorly b/c they say the scent isn’t exactly the same] Verdict is: I love this product and would recommend it to anyone who likes the Nirvana scent (they make the white as well) whom is already a user of dry shampoos!
Becca Backlight Priming Filter:
This is a new installment from Becca and I was really excited to try it! I honestly was not sure how I would feel about it b/c I tend to shy away from highlighters for large areas of illuminating, strobing etc. (despite its being totally of the moment.) -I love the way it looks on others, especially those with darker complexions, but when I try the look I feel as though it simply dramatizes aging, makes my oilier skin look oilier, essentially maximizes what I focus on hiding with my other products. So: when it comes to my strobe like highlighters, in any consistency/form I tend to stick to small areas such as the very top of my cheekbones. This primer is a totally different concept though. Illumination under the makeup while also being a fully functional primer. I kind of figured any of its effects would end up concealed by concealers and foundations but I was wrong. It’s spectacular! At first pump it has the iridescent beigey/gold-ish look to it and a whipped like consistency. Upon first application I was a bit shocked at the pigment and looked somewhat tin man-ish (definitely not a primer to wear on its own) it felt slightly sticky for a bit but soon became more comfortable. After letting it fully dry I applied my makeup with my beauty blender sponge and was amazed at both its capabilities as a primer and an illuminator. My makeup went on so smooth, looked so flawless and the glow it imparted was absolutely gorgeous. I felt my skin had never looked better. (I’m pretty excited over this primer if you have not concluded by now) On to the best part: My biggest fear; Would it last and would I end up looking like a glowing oil slick within hours?! I must say; not only did my makeup stay intact, (even while spending an hour in the CA sunshine playing with my son), it looked just as good at the day’s end as it did when I applied it. Verdict: Lit within look, did not create unwanted shine or make me oily, worked as any good primer should, if not better and it lasted. Amazing product. Highly recommend! (I have combination skin, dryer areas but certain products do make my skin look very oily)
My final product is not exactly a ‘New’ product as are the others are but it is still ‘new-ish’ to the US and not as widely known about to the masses. This is a product by Kbeauty brand Tony Moly which I have grown to love. From their fun packaging to their unique approach to beauty, the brand really is a must try for all!
Tony Moly Egg Pore Cooling and tightening pack:
Cute, right? This is a really interesting concoction for sure; from the look, to the texture -it’s like no other product I have ever tried! The purpose of this pack is to tighten up open or lose pores with a cooling effect that covers the pore. You simply spread product over entire face; or desired area, leave on 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
When you unscrew the top of the egg the product beneath is covered with a protective plastic piece resembling the yolk, of course! The product itself is a bit hard to explain in appearance so I photographed it:
The consistency is really unique; It’s a bit of a whipped, airy but spongey/springy consistency yet spreads easily on to face in a standard pore mask type consistency (it does dry somewhat quickly though.) The product has a bit of a cooling feeling and dries super tight on to your skin. (I wouldn’t try chatting on the phone while sporting this pack) After drying and rinsing the product I definitely noticed diminished pores more so than with other pore masks I have tried. The best part for me though was how tightened and firm my face felt and it was baby soft. I found out post purchase that this is actually step 2 in a 3 step system. The first step a blackhead steam pack and the 3rd a smoothing balm. I definitely plan to purchase and try the other 2 steps in the system. I highly recommend this product and trying tony Moly out for yourself. It’s a fun change to your typical routine that still gets results!
