Allure Beauty Box – September 2015

Hey, Kids!

Today I will be reviewing the September Allure Beauty Box.

For 15.00 per month you will receive a box containing 5 or more deluxe sized beauty products from today’s most luxurious brands.

One of my favorite things about the Allure Beauty Box is how carefully it is curated and the awesome little mini mag that is included in each box.  It gives excellent descriptions and tips for each item in the box with a descriptive and down to earth introduction to the boxes content.  I love the beauty directors honest representation of each product.

*If you read my June review you will notice that it is a bit different than that of this and the past couple of months.  What was once Allure/Sample Society and affiliated with BeautyBar.com has underwent a change and has now been rebranded as the ‘Allure Beauty Box‘.  I’ve been loving all of the boxes under the new branding and really look forward to receiving it each month!

The Goods:

Pixi Glow Tonic

Pixi by Petra Glow Tonic: This is a 0.5 oz. deluxe sized Sample.  The 3.4 oz full size product s $15.00

This product is an alcohol free toner that exfoliates and brightens the skin with glycolic acid, aloe vera and witch hazel.  I have been wanting to try this product for a while now but just had not gotten around to it.  I was really pleased to see it in the box this month.  I must say I liked it so much that I immediately went to Target and purchased the full sized product which I have been using daily.  [There was also a 2.00 off coupon on the back of the box.] Awesome!  This product has a light fresh/clean scent and makes my skin feel clean and fresh without making it feel dry like some toners can.  I really do feel like it brightens up my complexion and I am a big fan of the product.  Definitely worth a purchase!  (Pixi also carries a Glow mist with Argan oil and propolis.  I’m afraid I’m going to ‘need’ that as well!)

Soap and Glory

Soap & Glory Pillow Plump XXL Lip Gloss in Pinkwell:  This is a .13 oz Deluxe Sized Sample.  The full sized product is 14.00

This is a pale pink lip gloss meant for plumping your lips.  I actually really like this gloss.  First of all it smells like chocolate, which was unexpected and it’s shade is a nice, neutral, flattering, light pink shade.  Lip plumpers and their claims have been an ongoing debate for many years now and I still remember piling on all of the DuWop Lip venoms, Too Faced Lip injections, Lip fusions etc. and trying to figure out if my lips looked any bigger after doing so….This product is different than those as far as the feeling you get on your lips.  It’s not quite the warm, stingy as it’s more of a tingly, fizzy.  Allure describes it as a ‘pingy pop rocks’ on your lips feeling and I think that’s a pretty good description.  It lasts a good 30 minutes and I actually like it, (haha) but then I am one that likes the stingy feeling of all of the lip plumpers out there though I realize that some people do not.  If you do not like the effects of other plumpers you will likely not be a fan of this one either.  One big plus of this plumper’s technology is that it doesn’t dry your lips out the way most of those warm stingy versions can and it seems pretty moisturizing.  Does it plump?  Well, here is how I feel and what I think about the plumping effects in these types of products:  The strange effect it creates on your lips kind of makes you sport a poutier face than you would otherwise and it definitely smooths the lines in your lips a bit resulting in a more supple looking lip.  It doesn’t really increase the size of the actual lip for me but can slightly pinken the area right outside your lip line if you apply it beyond a bit.  Either way, it’s a fun product for me and I enjoy using it.  It’s something I would purchase again.

Kaplan MD

Kaplan MD Cellular Rejuvenating Concentrate:  This is a deluxe sample.  The full sized product is 170.00 for 1oz

This is an anti-aging serum made sans sulfates, parabens, petroleum, castor oil, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PABA, animal ingredients and is not tested on animals.  It’s meant to fight wrinkles and increase your collagen with hyaluronic acid at a 50% ratio and a plethora of peptides, plant stem cells and antioxidants…and boy is it pricey!  This is truly a luxury product.  I definitely noticed improved skin after just one use (more hydrated, somewhat plumped and glow-y) and it really only requires the teeniest amount of product; so while it is very pricey the product should last quite a long time.  I plan to continue using this serum daily, until the product is empty to better determine whether the results, after continued use justify the cost.  (It will have to produce some pretty amazing results) Glad I was able to try it though!

Alterna Caviar

Alterna Replenishing Moisture Milk: This is a .35 oz deluxe sized sample.  The full sized version is $30.00 for 5.1 oz

This is a leave-in Deep conditioning spray with caviar extract, dimethicone, glycerin and vitamin C made without parabens, sulfates or phthalates and is designed to hydrate and add shine to dry, brittle hair.  This product has a citrusy smell that I love.  When I apply it post my regular conditioner as a leave in conditioner, with extra on my ends, it really improves the condition of my very dry hair.  It also helps my easy to tangle hair to be brushed wet or dry (with the proper brush of course) .

Erno Laszlo

Erno Laszlo Firmarine Bar Soap:  This is a very small mini bar.  The full sized bar is $45.00

This is a moisturizing bar soap to clean and soften your skin with moisturizing algae extracts, lots of vitamins, fatty acid and shea butter.  The scent of the soap is delightful, a beachy marine like fragrance and the lather is nice and silky.  It’s designed to banish free radicals which break down collagen and to reinforce your skin’s moisture, leaving it smoother and more supple.  It’s been a very long time since I have washed my face with a bar soap but decided to give it a shot.  It felt nice on my skin and once rinsed my skin did feel soft but not as moisturized as I had hoped…it wasn’t drying at all just not as moisturizing as I had expected.  I did notice a faint bit of left over makeup when toning afterwards as well.  (this was likely my fail as it was a bit different using this bar formula)  All in all it is a nice soap and as i’ve had no breakouts or other negative side effects I plan to continue using it until it is gone since it is opened in my soap dish by my bath.  At 45.00 dollars for a bar of soap though I am happy with my other facial cleansers and prefer not having another exposed bar around my bathroom.  I doubt it will be a product that I repurchase.

Jane Iredale

Jane Iredale Facial Primer & Brightener: This is a deluxe size sample.  The full sized 1.7 oz product is 48.00

This is a moisturizing makeup primer with a very light pinkish tint that has an orange-y scent.  It’s an award winning primer meant to moisturize, soothe with antioxidants, blur pores and absorb excess oil making it ideal for combination skin and safe for sensitive and redness prone skin as well.  This is a really great primer.  It does go on feeling very moisturizing but comfortable and not too heavy. The scent is very pleasant and it does leave an instant glow as well as giving a slight blurring effect on pores and fine lines.  I already use a few different, excellent primers for different looks and skin issues that come up at different periods of the month/season.  At 48.00 a tube I probably won’t be adding this one to my arsenal b/c I have a moisturizing primer that I already really like.  You never know though, with continued use if no issues or breakouts result and my skin looks fantastic I may change my mind.  If you are looking for a multi beneficial primer though and a main concern is moisture but also like the brightening and blurring effects this may be a great option for you!

Tangle Teezer

Tangle Teezer:  Original full sized Tangle Teezer brush $15.00

This is a handle-less plastic brush meant to detangle both wet and dry hair.  It fits easily in to the palm of your hand and has lots of spiky, pliable, plastic bristles that glide through your hair.  When I received this Allure Beauty Box I had just been complaining to my husband about how on earth I was going to get the massive tangles out of my long, thick, hair after going to bed the night prior with an intricate messy top knot (a total bad move for hair like mine) I opened up my box and find a caviar detangling, conditioning spray and this, new to me, Tangle Teezer brush; then the choir sang! 😉  If you have thick, wavy, easy to tangle hair and normal brushes tend to pull too much hair out and feel as though you are ‘ripping through your hair’  this will likely be the best 15.00 you ever spend.  This thing works like magic on my hair.  I tried it on wet hair as well, and it works, but I do feel the ‘wet brush’ is a bit safer of a bristle style for my tangly wet hair.  I also love the handle-less style and it is actually a lot easier to use than you may assume upon first glance.  Plus, it takes up less space in your purse or travel bag.  Excellent product!
