Glossybox Review – September 2015

Glossybox

Today I will be reviewing my September Glossybox.  (There are generally a few variations in products)  Sorry I’m behind, it was a crazy September!  I think I will do a joint September/October Julep Maven blog post/review as my October box has just arrived! With a Liebster award nomination and lots of products and subscriptions to review for October I will have many new posts to come this week!  I hope you all enjoy!

Glossybox is a monthly subscription box that boasts 5 luxury beauty products each month, wrapped up in a lovely pink box. The products are often full sized, if not; they are deluxe sized samples. The cost of the subscription is 21.00 per month with free shipping.

Check it out and/or subscribe to Glossybox here!

The Goods:

Stiks Cosmetics

Stiks Cosmetics Lipstik in Red: This products is full sized .10 oz $15.00

This is a Lipstick designed with an on-the-go concept in mind.  The product has a unique packaging meant for a one handed, quick, easy application.  Colors will vary.  I was bummed about the shade of this lipstick but interested in its concept and performance nonetheless.  It’s not that I don’t like Red and deep color lipsticks, I love them [on others] I just do not typically feel comfortable wearing them myself.  Unfortunately, it seems, it’s 90% of what I have been receiving as of late.  Here’s the good news:  The formula of this lipstick was nice, super smooth and buildable so I was able to put a light layer on my lips and blend it in, like a stain and it turns out, I really liked the results!  The shade is really a very wearable true red and I’d say universal for all skin tones.  While I didn’t necessarily find the lipstick moisturizing it was smooth and was not drying.  I like the product and if I would have received a color I wear more frequently I would likely keep it in my bag for quick, on the go applications.  If you are a big lipstick lover this is definitely a cool new product to check out!

NailsInc

NAILS INC Uptown Nail Polish:  This product is full size .47 oz $14.00

Nails Inc polish is designed to smooth out imperfections in the nail with a highly pigmented formula utilizing a plumping agent to create a long lasting glossy finish.  This is a flattering dusty rose hue meant to compliment every skin tone.  I love nails inc polish, it’s one of my top polish brands that I purchase.  Unfortunately I happen to already have this color in a ‘nudes’ set but I like the shade. 🙂

Biossance

Biossanse The revitalizer: This is a deluxe size sample .05 oz.  The full sized product is 1.7 oz and $58.00

This product is made of 100% Squalane which is a naturally occurring emollient in the body that works to replenish and hydrate the skin that can diminish in some as early as heir 20’s.  This plant derived Squalane is meant to restore what was once there and revitalize dull skin on your face, body and hair.  I really like these little drops, they are like a very thin serum and a little goes a long way.  I’ve been putting a few drops daily on my neck, knees, elbows and inner arm elbow area.  They really seem to help.

12Benefits

12 Benefits Love at first Lather Shampoo: This product is full size 1.7 oz $9.00

The unique foam delivery in this shampoo is meant to remove impurities, protect the cuticle and act as a natural sunscreen without any harsh chemicals.  It contains sunflower extract and coconut oil.  This is a pretty small bottle for a full sized product, while I know that the foam delivery equates to more product than a typical shampoo; it states to use 10-12 pumps per wash, which for me equated to about 20.  The scent is kind of a classic shampoo scent, nice enough but the product just doesn’t work well for my hair type.  I just do not feel like it gets through my thick hair well.  Not a bad product, just not for me.

Emité Makeup

Emité Make Up Artist Colour Powder Blush:  This product is full size .35 oz $22.00

This blush is designed to sculpt cheekbone with seamless definition in a warm peach tone.  It is infused with mica for intense pigments and a natural radiant glow.  I was not a fan of this blush.  It’s very dark and it holds true to the intense pigment statement so it’s not one of those products that look darker than it actually is.  The softest swipe in to the pan left a garishly dark slash on my cheekbones that I had to wipe off with tissue and then blend, blend, blend (which I don’t think it did easily either and seemed to draw out my imperfections)  This product was also super powdery; lots of fall out.  Needless to say it did not work out well for me at all.   My conclusion:  This powder blusher might work well on a dark complected individual with pretty good skin (make sure you are totally oil free prior to aplplication) who likes a strong blush/sculpted cheekbone (I must admit after more work than I’d have liked my cheekbones did look super sculpted that day)  This just didn’t work well for me.  Too messy, To dark with intense pigments and tough for me to blend it out.

Emité BlushEmité Swatch

The photo on the left shows how ‘powdery it gets with just one swipe, (it looks much lighter here than it actually is.  The photo above is more true to the actual shade.)  The photo on the right shows swatches.  The right corner is directly from pan to my inner arm and the other is what it did when I tried to blend it.

The box also included a unique 20% off code to use at Baublebar.com.  I will definitely use this. 🙂

I really love Glossybox but this was definitely my least favorite box in some time.  There are a couple great products in it though so I am content.  Last month’s box I loved and I am really looking forward to October’s specially themed and designed French Beauty Box.  Glossybox limited Edition and Special Edition boxes are always the best.  The value of this box was over $60.00.  What did you think of the September Glossybox?

I know! I can’t ever seem to let go of any either. LOL. Thats a tough comparison b/c one is a 10.00 and the other 21.oo. Glossybox is higher end and you get a lot of full size products, when they’re not they are still very deluxe..Most of the time I love glossybox, especially their special versions but you definitely feel more bummed when you receive one you are not thrilled about… Ipsy is pretty hit or miss for me and can get kind of repetitive after you are subscribed for some time, but at only 10 bucks and all of the discount codes and such, it helps. If I had to pick just one of the two I’d likely go with Glossybox b/c I get larger more quality products and less little samples and lower end brands. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions on any other boxes! 🙂
