Hello, Lovelies. Happy weekend!
I picked up these two large palettes by bhcosmetics some time ago at an absolute steal. I had heard of bhcosmetics prior due to Instagram and other social media platforms, knew they were an inexpensive brand and was uncertain of their quality. I’d never owned any of their products prior but when I saw several of their very large palettes for only about $6.00 a pop at an area TJMaxx, I simply could not pass them up.
I snagged both the Foundation & Concealer 10 color palette and the Essential Eyes 28 color Eye Shadow Palette. These two palettes are quite large and contain a good size pan of each item. I have purchased so many new beauty items and palettes this [early] holiday season and figured it was high time I tried some of things I had not!
I honestly did not expect too much from these palettes which is why it has taken me so long to try the them out. I’m glad I hung on to them and finally tried them out. They are not luxury products, by any means, but they are much better than I had expected and easily worth what I paid for them as well as at their typical site price: Essential Eyes Palette $20.00, currently on sale for $10.00 and the Foundation and Concealer Palette $17.00, currently on sale for $12.00. (This palette is available in a deeper version as well.)
The Foundation Palette:
The best part of this foundation palette is obviously, the color selection and the ability to custom blend your shade and coverage for a perfect match. The product itself is not super creamy and I did not expect it would be. It does have a good buildable formula allowing you to achieve anything from a super sheer to a full coverage look. I found this product works best using a damp beauty blender and simply mixing your shades and building your coverage as needed. I’ve never owned a foundation palette of any sort prior to this but I really liked being able to mix my own shade this way. I found this palette had a good shade range knocking out all of the basic under tones, whether pink, yellow or more of a red/orange. I feel like I, for the first time, finally had the exact match for my skin tone and was impressed with the end result. I applied primer prior to the foundation and found the product stuck around and didn’t slide off of my face as the day progressed. The formula was definitely different than I was accustomed to but I think on days that I have the time I will likely get good use out of this palette. I think I will also save a swatch of my finished custom combo so I can take it with me to chose a foundation that matches my concoction perfectly. For the price I would definitely recommend this palette to an aspiring makeup artist starting out or someone like me who simply wants to play with color and tone to find your perfect match. It’s an incredible value.
The Eye Shadow Palette:
This palette boasts 28 shades in both matte and shimmer finishes and is a pretty neutral, cooler selection of shades. The formula is pretty good too. There is some fallout, of course but its not a cheap-y powdery shadow and it does have a nice texture and finish with good pigment. I applied some of my higher end shadows to my arm, while swatching, at the same time as these in order to really get a good idea of the quality, pros and cons. Some of my higher end shadows are a bit easier to build with slightly less fallout and have a bit more ‘creamy/smooth’ consistency but the bhcosmetics shadows are still pretty comparable, in my opinion and I definitely own much pricier shadows and palettes that do not perform nearly as well as these. I would recommend this palette to someone who loves the UD Naked palettes without the naked palette budget or anyone who simply wants a large shadow collection with a large selection of neutrals in one place. I swatched several of the darker shades in this palette on my arm as well as a couple of the lighter shimmers so you could get an idea of the product once applied.
