Birchbox December 2015

Hey Birchbox fans!!

This month I missed out on the option to add any of the Birchbox plus items; everything I wanted was sold out by the time I received my email.  Certain items sold out super fast this month.  I was really bummed but hoped they would do something special this month, being the December box.  I was a bit disappointed.  They did include a certificate for $10.00 off of a $35.00 Birchbox purchase, which was nice, but I had major envy of the Birchbox UK recipients who received some excellent products gifted in a nice clutch for their December ‘box’.  I did like the box itself though, cute and winterish.  Thoughts?

If you are new to Birchbox, Here is the lowdown:

For 10.00 Per Month you will receive a box of 5 beauty products/samples and an occasional bonus product delivered to your door each month. Join Birchbox and use code: BBJETBLUE10 for 10.00 (100 bb points) to use in shop with your new subscription.

For those interested there is also a Mens Birchbox. Details here

birchbox has added many additional options lately as well:

-prior to the month you will receive an email that will often allow you to choose one of your samples from a selection or to choose a specially curated birchbox with each product detailed. You also may stick with the option of keeping your surprise standard monthly box with a selection of the spotlighted monthly items!

-Birchbox Plus: In addition to your monthly boxes birchbox has added Birchbox Plus, this allows you to add a lifestyle item to your box for a discounted price: [anything from additional (full sized) beauty products to items for your home, entertaining and accessories!] (You will receive an email with these options prior to your months box as well)

-The very best part of Birchbox for me is the Birchbox store and the rewards system that they have. Each month you may review each product for 10 BB points ea. 100 points equals 10.00 to use in the Birchbox shop; essentially every two birchboxes received can get you 10.00 to use in the birchbox shop.  (you also earn 1 bb point for every dollar spent in the shop) There are many other promos that allow you additional bb points and other loyalty discounts throughout each year.  They offer many excellent brands in their shop.

– Birchbox also has the Ace program which you are auto enrolled in after receiving 500 bb points in a calendar year:  learn more about the Ace program.

The Box:

December Birchbox

The Goods:

Juara Cocounut Illipe Hand and Nail Balm

Juara Coconut Illipe Hand and Nail Balm:  Deluxe Sample Size; Full size is $20.00

I received a scrub via Birchbox from this brand a while back and really liked it.  This hand and nail cream is really great as well.  It’s thick, rich and ultra moisturizing while being quick to absorb and non-greasy.  The scent is nice as well.  Good product for aging or extremely dry hands and cuticles.  Good winter product.  The sample size is very small for a hand cream though.  You will not get many uses from it.

The Balm Frat Boy

theBalm Cosmetics FratBoy: Deluxe sample; Full size $21.00

This is a talc free blush/eyeshadow in a flush of a pink.  It’s a nice shade and formula.  I’ve come to like this brand, through Birchbox and though incredibly tiny, their sample packaging is equally as cute as their full sized products.

Coastal Scents Style Eyes

Coastal Scents styleEYES Eyeshadow Palette Sampler:  full size product is $12.00

Coastal scents is an inexpensive brand that I have received in Subscription boxes and purchased on my own as well.  I have had some so-so products and some really good ones too.  This little duo was pretty good, the pigment was there and the texture was nice enough.  I can’t say I’ve ever worn green eyeshadow but I may give it a shot…

Klorane Dry Shampoo bb

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk: Travel Size $9.00; Full size is $20.00

I love Dry Shampoo, I’ve mentioned this many times.  I do hope I do not receive any more for a while though.  I am beyond stocked up.  This particular version’s standout is its lack of a white powdery residue, making it a standout product for the darker haired users.  Spritz on your roots, brush or work through your hair and you’re good.  It’s great for boosting volume and extending the life of a blowout too.

Harvey Prine Sea Salt Spray

Harvey Prince Sea Salt Texturizing Mist: Deluxe Sample; Full size is $24.00

Birchbox has a couple of brands that they seem to love that I simply do not care for; this is one of them.  I can’t tell you how many of their fragrances I have received over the course of my time with Birchbox and their scents just do not fit me at all.  This product is a sea salt spray, so a bit different than what I generally receive from the brand, but still a miss for me.  I want to love sea salt mists for beach waves but they just do not work for me.  Much like the same results I get from the actual beach’s sea salted, damp air – frizz.  These products look great directly following spritzing and styling, but soon after begin to cause my hair to frizz uncontrollably, which to me, was the one [and only] downfall of living right on the ocean.  It sure was great for my skin though!)
