Rimmel (Kate Moss Collection) Spring 2016

Rimmel spring 2016

Hey there!  I spotted a Rimmel by Kate ‘Spring Brights’ display just recently at Walgreens and as a result; I now have another ‘New for 2016’ post for your reading enjoyment! I’ve tried a few Rimmel products over the years but none of them ever turned in to anything that I continued using or repurchased.  The Rimmel by Kate Moss lipsticks were always quite pretty and intriguing but the original selection were ‘reds’ so I never took the plunge.  I really liked the looks of these newbies so I decided to give them a whirl.  First Up..

Rimmel by Kate Moss Conditioning Lip Balm

Rimmel by Kate Moss Lip conditioning balm: $5.49 (prices vary by retailer)

I will likely never stop purchasing every new lip balm/lip treatment that hits the market.  I’m forever searching for ‘the one’.  This pretty little tube caught my eye right away with its sleek design of white and silver and the pink ‘Kate’ logo signature on the cap.  When I first brought the product to my lips I was instantly hit with a nostalgic scent; I still can’t quite put my finger on it but I’m thinking possibly St Ives, Apricot scrub, maybe?  Either way, the scent is nice, light and maybe even has a slight honey scent mingled in.  The formula itself though apricot in color, goes on colorless.  It’s very smooth and emollient and I must say; I’m quite addicted to the little tube already.  It seems to keep my lips pretty moisturized and is said to pair well with the lasting finish, Kate: nudes collection  I’ve not seen these shades in store yet but you can bet, when I do, I will snag some!  I have been wearing this underneath the Lasting finish lipstick I did purchase and really like the products together.  This brings me to my next review…

Rimmel lasting finish spring brights

Rimmel by Kate Moss Lasting Finish Spring Brights Go ‘Tropic’ Collection: $5.49 (prices vary by retailer)

I believe this is a limited edition collection and consists of 5 lipstick shades: 34-38 and the lip balm. (I really hope they keep this on)  The shades are designed for spring and are all quite pretty.  I chose shade 38, more of a pinky/nude hued bright:

I like this lipstick!  Glad I finally tried it.  The tubes are pretty, the shades are nice, the formula is moisturizing and it lasts pretty well.  You can’t beat the price, either!  I have been wearing mine with the lip balm underneath and it has kept my lips more smooth and hydrated.  It has a pleasant scent and taste.  While the color seems to last for a prolonged amount of time its moisturizing properties seem to subside after a while, using the balm underneath helps the moisture last a while longer but for a fresh moisture packed look reapplication throughout the day will be needed.  This formula is basically everything I need in a lipstick; plus, I like the packaging.  As far as the new shades go:  I, personally am quite ready to move on to some brights, sheers, nudes/naturals, glossy even and away from all of the mattes, velvets, darks and reds so this collection is just what I needed to see!

Rimmel by Kate Moss Sculpting and highlighting Kit: I believe this was under $10.00

Ok, Ok.  I need another Contouring palette/product like I need a hole in my head…this being said:  I feel like this little gem is the spring/summer answer to contouring.  With this little palette I feel as though I can achieve a sheer natural approach to contouring resulting in instant cheekbones and a nice sheer glow; not the overdone Instagram quality mega contour.  Don’t get me wrong; I’m not knocking the ‘contour’  I was contouring before It was given a household name, a palette or 50 and hit the trendy world by storm.  I have, though not a large nose at all, a wide bridge.  I learned long ago that some darker concealer shades strategically placed and a lighter swipe down the bridge of my nose made my nose appear exactly how I wanted it to appear, when photographed.  When used properly its a great corrective process and a way to achieve the cheekbones we all crave…or the ones we once had in our youth.  The overdone contour looks of instagram and the like, the sharp barely or unblended versions, the ones that would never, ever work outside a photograph, already tiny noses becoming even tinier etc.; I’m definitely over those, personally.  But hey, you do YOU!  Back to the palette!  I have tried and tried but can find very little of this product online, where to purchase, anything.  I found mine at a Walgreens and it was available in 3 versions which were labeled simply: Light, Medium, Dark.  The names on the palette are 001 Golden Sands (light) 002 Coral Glow (medium) & 003 Golden Bronze (dark). Light and Medium appear to have a bit of shimmer throughout the palette while the darker shade appears to lack shimmer in the bronzer ‘contour’ shade.  I chose Coral Glow b/c I liked the shade of the blusher.  Typically I would not prefer shimmer throughout the palette but I like it in this particular palette and it isn’t super shimmery.  It’s a lighter more powdery product, not creamy at all but velvet-y and somewhat sheer. It blends quite easily so you can obtain a natural, glow-y summery look.  I think all 3 palettes could be blended out enough even for lighter skin tones.  I would not recommend this palette for doing a full face contour look, the shades just are not right for that; but, the ‘contour’ shade looks great lightly dusted on the face as a bronzer and the three used in conjunction with one another create beautiful instant cheekbones: ‘contour shade’ under the cheekbones to create some depth, blush blended above, highlight on the tops of cheekbones and wherever else your little heart desires and you have a nice, not overly done, sculpted look.

above are some swatches of each shade from the coral glow palette, applied to arm, after priming.  Applied without primer the shades were much more sheer and not very noticeable on my arm as it was dry without oils or makeup for the shades to adhere.  On the second photo I began blending some so the highlight shade blended in to the other two shades making it more shimmery than above.

Well, that’s a wrap!  Thoughts?  I’d love to hear them.

Here is the look!  I tried different lighting to try to get the subtle contour. You can see it best in the 3rd photo as well as the lip color.  What do you think?  Is it Kate-worthy!? ❤

Gorgeous! I love how the balm is in a lipstick tube, makes it a little more fun! The actual lipstick is to die for, the color is perfect- I have always been a big fan of the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks. The sculpting and highlighting kit looks great too for a nice wash of color- perhaps a good Summer-time staple!
Would probably make for good eyeshadows too:)

Yes! I totally agree with you in every aspect. I can’t believe I found such a perfect for me shade on my first try too. Never happens! I’m really quite thrilled to have found a lipstick formula I like so much that is so inexpensive too! I can’t wait to find a display of ‘the nudes’ collection they look really pretty.

I’ve heard great things about this collection! The lipstick color seems amazing. I don’t really like shimmery contour shades, so I probably wouldn’t buy this kit.
