Glossybox February 2016

Today I will be reviewing my February Glossybox.  (There are generally a few variations in products) Glossybox is a monthly subscription box that boasts 5 luxury beauty products each month, wrapped up in a lovely pink box. The products are often full sized, if not; they are deluxe sized samples. The cost of the subscription is 21.00 per month with free shipping.

Glossybox has a classic monthly box but often does a special edition or collab/partner edition that replaces their regular box.  These boxes generally have a unique box with special artwork or are labeled with the partnering brands/company’s logos etc. They are specially curated to fit the theme or contain some of the most popular brands/products spotlighted by said partnering brands/companies.  I get really excited for these boxes. (The October 2015 box was one of these ‘types’ of Glossyboxes.)  The special edition boxes alone are often great for display or re-use in some way or another.  In addition to these unique monthly versions Glossybox also curates special, limited edition, [additional] one time purchase boxes, ie: Holiday, Mothers day etc. (you can scroll through the past boxes here -just scroll down the linked page a bit to view past boxes.) * If it does not have a month in the title than it is a special edition one time, additional purchase box, otherwise it was the box included in your subscription.

…and now on to February’s box.  This month’s box was one of Glossbox’ special edition designs and had a Valentine’s Day inspired box design.  Despite being somewhat of a pampering sort of box the box design is essentially where the ‘theme’ ends.  Let’s get started!

The Goods:

Teeez Cosmetics Oasis Gem Lipstick - Heat Wave Ruby

Teeez Cosmetics Oasis Gem Lipstick in Heat Wave Ruby: Product is Full Size $22.00

I’ve received 1 other item from this brand before, via Glossybox and I absolutely love their packaging.  I’ve browsed their site and their products all look as cool as the next.  Because the first product I received was simply a clear polish top coat; I couldn’t really get too much insight in to the brand and their quality.  This product is really nice and proves the brand is ‘more than just a pretty face’ 😉  I’ll admit, I was not initially thrilled to find this to be yet another red, deep, matte lip color because I never wear them.  I do think a lot of people will really love this shade and formula though, because it’s quite good.  The shade is a deep Ruby red and b/c it does actually work with my skin tone I’d say it is likely pretty universal.  It’s described by Glossybox as a berry and seems to have blue tones to me, which is likely why it works with my cooler skin tone.  The texture once applied is pretty matte but not a super matte.  When the product first touched my lips it felt rough, even finely grained sandpaper-ish but it went on smooth with the deep pigment of a stain (not thick) with excellent coverage.  After application, when rubbing your lips together it no longer feels dry at all, quite the opposite.  It did not exacerbate the dry qualities of my lips but improved them a tad bit.  Pretty good for a Matte finish.  I’d definitely like to try this product in a shade more suited to myself; unfortunately, I can’t seem to find this product on their site in any shade. (The glossy mag states the shade is limited edition so I can only assume its limited time has run out.)  The most similar product I could find was the: Read My Lips Lipstick with a Satin-Matte finish for the same price, but they have some different formulas on their site that sound really nice as well.

Arm Swatch (I did one swipe then a second across the bottom) on my actual lips it only required one pass.

être belle gold skin roll on eye

Être Belle Cosmetics Golden skin, roll-on Caviar eye gel: Product is full size $45.00

I’m a bit on the fence in regards to this product.  I’ve tried a few etre belle products now and though pricey the products have all seemed pretty basic in both idea and performance. While this roll on tries to amp up a common product with tiny gold flecking within the serum; it’s much like the gold flecking in Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclat primer: a fine product on its own yet leaves somewhat pointless and random tiny gold sparkles here and there…Anyway, the product gives you that instant pick me up with a cold metal rollerball and cool, thin, gel-like formula.  I have always liked these types of eye products as they do seem to wake up the look and feel of tired eyes.  Thing is; I seem to get the same results from the very inexpensive versions as I do the pricey versions.  (including the $3.00 Elf Eye refresh) Another issue I had was that even after plenty of drying time this product did not play well with my regular eye cream so I would only be able to use it on its own.  The elf and other versions I own work just fine prior to my eye cream.  This product does not come in a box and contains very little info on the actual product so you really know very little about what you are putting under your eye.  I will probably use it more to test it out further but it is definitely not something I would purchase for $45.00.  (Also, this product is not available on the US site, link is to the German site)

Biorepublic Skincare Illuminating fiber Mask Pomegranate Crush

BioRepublic Pomegranate Crush Illuminating Fiber Mask:  Product is full size $5.00

I have owned several of these BioRepublic masks in different types/scents prior to receiving this one and though it took me a while to embrace the paper/fiber mask craze, I eventually got on bored.   I’m a total maskaholic now.  I like that there is always some extra product left behind to pat in to your skin.  I prefer to wear mine during a long bubble bath with a book.

Benefit The POREfessional Pro Balm Face Primer

Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Face Primer:  Sample size.  full size $31.00

The porefessional.  Love it or hate it.  That seems to be the verdict when it comes to this product.  I personally, am a fan of its peachy hued oddly fragrant for a face primer silicone ‘esque’ formula.  I do not use mine as an all over face primer though.  I tend to use multiple primers at on time as it is.  When combination skin is to the extreme in either nature a primer that works for your entire face can be extremely tricky.  This is not enough for my super oily areas and can be clogging to my pores causing breakouts in my breakout prone areas.  It certainly can’t be used on dry patchy areas.  It does; however, work nicely around my nose and the upper center/cheek area where my skin is a bit oily with enlarged pores.  It smooths, minimizes pores and mattifies and has a nice light & velvety feel to it.  You can use this product on top of makeup as well for a soft focus look or as a touch up throughout the day; beware though, if you wear heavy makeup it may cause a pilling/crumb(y) effect.

I do own a plethora of these mini porefessionals due to subscription boxes which is nice as I have never needed to purchase this product in full.  I was disappointed to receive this product in Glossybox though.  A typical mini (.25 oz) can be purchased for $12.00 but this is the super-teeny mini at a mere .10 oz size.  I’d expect this from BB or ipsy but not Glossybox…

Glam Glow Thirsty Cleans Mud to Foam Cleanser

GlamGlow Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser: 1 oz tube $14.00 (full size $39.00 5 oz)

This is a hydrating mud to foam cleanser.  I’ve received many GlamGlow samples via beauty subs and have always been happy when receiving them.  The nice thing about Glossybox is that they send 1 oz tubes in lieu of the .5 oz tubes that most beauty subs send.  As much as I LOVE the idea of GlamGlow products, the brand itself and the packaging; now that I’ve got a huge stash of every single product, I’ve unfortunately found that only a few of their products actually suit me while others cause my skin additional havoc. I love the under eye treatments, the pout mud combo and the newest mask: Gravity mud, but most of their other products I can only use maybe once per week and even then it’s sometimes too much of ‘what it does’ for my finicky, combo skin to handle.  This version does hydrate though so if you need a hydrating cleanser and are not prone to breakouts this and its pairing mask may suit you perfectly.  If your skin is combination and prone to breakouts and/or really sensitive I would not suggest this as a routine cleanser. Oh and I nearly forgot; this sub box also came with a unique code for 30% off at glamglowmud.com, which is a huge discount!

What were your thoughts on this month’s Glossybox?  The value was around $90.00, which is great and it had a nice pampering aspect to it.  I think if the lip stick was a shade I would wear I’d feel really good about it, the teeny porefessional was a bit of a letdown but as a whole, not too shabby overall.

right? I was wondering what was with the name, if it was really in reference to anything particular (besides the bottle) I though I noticed some flecks under my eye so I rolled it on my arm…you know the rest, haha!
