Allure Beauty Box April 2016

Hey Beauty Fans!

Today I will be reviewing the April Allure Beauty Box.

For $15.00 per month you will receive a box containing 5 or more deluxe sized beauty products from today’s most luxurious brands.

One of my favorite things about the Allure Beauty Box is how carefully it is curated and the awesome little mini mag that is included in each box.  It gives excellent descriptions and tips for each item in the box with a descriptive and down to earth introduction to the boxes content.  I love the beauty directors honest representation of each product.

The Goods:

L'Occitane Amande Shower Oil

L’Occitane Almond Shower Gel: 2.5 oz $9.00.  Also available in 8.4 oz, $25.00 & 16.9 oz, $50.00

This cleansing & Moisturizing body oil wash was an easy favorite.  Love at first try.  Packaging is lovely, scent is as well and it feels so smooth, satin-y and luxurious on your skin.  The lather is subtle and the product isn’t so thick of an oil that it leaves a heavy film on your body like other oils can.  It rinses clean and leaves your skin soft and smelling fabulous, not overly sweet.  If you are a fan of shaving with body oils (as I am) you will love this is it works even better than a typical body oil does and does not clog your razor repeatedly or leave as much of a film in your tub/shower.  I really love this product and will absolutely be purchasing a large bottle of it.

BVULGARI Goldea

Bvlgari Goldea Eau De Parfum: This is a mini. Full sized versions $112.00-$155.00

I first fell for Bulgari years ago while staying at a Ritz Carlton where they had Bulgari toiletries in their rooms and much more in their gift shop.  I really like the ‘blanc’ bath & body products and own several of their fragrances.  This scent is new to me.  Allure describes it as a ‘floriental’ fragrance that’s a little earthy & a lot of sexy.  I find this to be a perfect description.  At first dab I felt this smelled similarly to any scent labeled as ‘Amber’ or ‘Amber something’ happily this changed as soon as the scent dried on my skin and it transformed in to more of a warm & lightly floral laced patchouli with a powdery finish. The floral notes are described as orange blossom, ylang ylang, jasmine and while I didn’t detect a prominent whiff of any of these stand out florals, they lightly mingle together understated by the warmth of the scent and the patchouli.  I dig it.  Take an evening dip with Amande shower oil, dab this on after and I dare you not to instantly feel like the sexy beast you are! 😉 Meow.

Loreal Voluminous original mascara

L’Oréal Voluminous Original Mascara: $5.89-$7.99 (varies by retailer)

Sometimes Beauty Subs take me on a little journey back in time to where life & beauty products were more simple.  I used this mascara exclusively for years after trying it again I quickly remembered why.  This thick, super black formula has a brush that’s neither too big, small, thick or thin.  Its no nonsense packaging and design houses a product that,  together with the brush, does a stellar job of lending volume to puny lashes without clumping and superb lash separation.  On its own this mascara is really good; with a primer underneath it’s fabulous.  One of the best parts about this mascara is that it allows you to layer and layer while still keeping lashes from clumping up and looking spider-y.  I’m sure this is why I loved it so much initially.  Glad we were re-introduced.  (This product is not mentioned in the product mag so I assume it’s a little ‘extra’ type item.)

Wrinkle Resist plus pore mimimizer DDF

DDF Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum: Deluxe sample (.05 oz.) Full size is $85.00

This is an anti-aging serum designed to instantly fill pores & minimize lines over time.  The peach hued double helix in the center disappears in to a soft sheen when applied to skin.  This stuff has been around for some time.  By the description you would think it would work as kind of an ‘all in one’ serum/moisturizer/primer…so, that’s how I chose t0 use it.  As far as pore minimizing goes, in comparison to other products I own with similar claims, I didn’t see much difference.  It is a good, lightweight & effective moisturizing serum for day, but used on its own and then applying bronzer followed by a bit of hd setting powder, for a light makeup day; my face was an oil slick by early afternoon. :/  While it seems like a quality product it simply doesn’t fit properly in to my routine or work the way I wanted it to.

Mally Beauty Perfect Prep lip pencil

Mally Beauty Evercolor Shaping Lip Pencil: Product is Full Size & is $26.00 for a 3 piece set

I’ve looked around quite a bit but can not seem to find this exact product anywhere.  To make matters even more confusing, while the product shown in my Allure mag is clearly a self sharpening lip pencil in an 8 shade range my product is, as you can see simply not that product.  It is also labeled, on the pencil:  Mally, perfect prep lip pencil; shade: light/medium…not a current shade option on Mally’s site or for the items that seem similar to the one shown in my allure mag with included products & descriptions.  Odd.  I think I received a different and likely older product instead.  Either way the in-cap sharpener is convenient and the liner shade is exactly the shade of the darkest tone of my natural lip so it works pretty well for me.

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Styling Crème: Product is a 2 oz travel size & $8.00.  Full size (4 oz) is $20.00

I’ve used this product many times to help ward off frizz and give my hair some much needed shine.  I really love the fresh, green, herbal like scent.  Product is a good leave-in treatment for parched hair and if your hair is extremely dry, like mine, you might try adding just a bit to the dry ends of your hair (when dry) to improve their feel and appearance.  Does anybody else find this interesting (I see this stuff all of the time, while blogging) You can purchase a 2 oz bottle for $8.00 or pay $20.00 for the full size which is only 4 oz… hmmmmm. haha!

What do you think of this month’s box?  It’s not my favorite Allure box, by any means, but I love the scent and the shower oil and the addition of the full sized Voluminous mascara was a really nice touch!

I love the smell of the L’Occitane oil. The sweet almond hand-creme is so nice as well!

Voluminous used to be my go-to mascara for years. I stopped using it because I felt like they changed the formula and it started to flake on me. I kind of miss it though, it works really well otherwise.

Looks like a pretty good box overall! 🙂

Yea, not bad! I honestly can’t remember why I stopped using it..I assume to try new things. It seems as though it was b/c Loreal came out with the first dual ended Mascara (the white primer on one end) I was crazy about those in the beginning. I’ve been using the voluminous for a week now and have not noticed flaking. It says ‘original’ on the packaging..maybe they returned to the original formula, like Coca Cola LOL.

I’ll have to give it a try again, that would be awesome if they did!
