Today I will be reviewing my August Glossybox. Sun Kissed (There are generally a few variations in products) Glossybox is a monthly subscription box that boasts 5 luxury beauty products each month, wrapped up in a lovely pink box. The products are often full sized, if not; they are deluxe sized samples. The cost of the subscription is 21.00 per month with free shipping.
*New* Last month they upped the cute factor on their info card; but this month they turned it in to a mini mag with cool graphics and photos, a lot more product info, discount codes for the featured brands, contests and sneak peaks in to the September Box. I LOVE that they did this. I enjoy flipping through things like this along with my box and products; I always enjoy this aspect of Allure’s monthly box.. I hope this is something they keep up with in the month’s ahead
Glossybox has a classic monthly box but often does a special edition or collab/partner edition that replaces their regular box. These boxes generally have a unique box with special artwork or are labeled with the partnering brands/company’s logos etc. They are specially curated to fit the theme or contain some of the most popular brands/products spotlighted by said partnering brands/companies. I get really excited for these boxes. (Next month, September, will be one of these special boxes. See bottom of post for more.) The special edition boxes alone are often great for display or re-use in some way or another. In addition to these unique monthly versions Glossybox also curates special, limited edition, [additional] one time purchase boxes, ie: Holiday, Mothers day etc. (you can scroll through the past boxes here -just scroll down the linked page a bit to view past boxes.) * If it does not have a month in the title than it is a special edition one time, additional purchase box, otherwise it was the box included in your subscription.
…and now on to August’s ‘Sun Kissed’ box.
The Box:
The Goods:
Wella Professionals Oil Reflections Smoothing Oil: Full Size $20.00
I already own this product and have reviewed it in the past. my hair cannot function without these oils and my initial discovery of Moroccanoil many , many years ago was a hair game changer for me. There are quite a few brands now, that make a product that works for me. I use quite a lot of the oil on damp hair, post washing; but, I also often add a teeny bit to the ends of my hair. (rub it in your hands first to avoid applying too much) I also will add a bit to my hair all over if I need to straighten it [again] without washing. This one has a small pump that dispense the right amount of product and has a really nice tropical scent that I love. If you have hair that is thick, course, frizzy…damaged and have not tried using this type of product in your hair you really should. It will transform your locks.
De Bruyère After sun lotion Monoi: Full Size $12.00
I love products like this; those that perfectly capture the essence of summer with their scent and ingredients. I’ve always likes Monoi products for my skin after sun and bathing in the summer months, and I now know that ‘Monoi’ are tiaré flowers that have been soaked in coconut oil. This product is meant to calm, nourish and protect skin that’s been weakened from over exposure to sun and other elements. Plus; it smells so good.
Too Faced Mascara Melt Off Cleansing Oil Waterproof Mascara Dissolver: Deluxe Mini. Full Size $17.00
This was the spoiler announced in July’s box. Because removing mascara is one of the things I dread every evening, and often end up with tiny clumps of it remaining at the base of my lashes; I purchased this right when it launched. While it was not quite the miracle I had hoped for, I do not wear waterproof mascara, so maybe it helps with the removal of that, in a more gentle manner. This product has a tiny wand that you ‘comb’ through your still coated lashes, that evenly distributes a mascara dissolving oil on to your lashes. After about 60 seconds, wipe off the mascara with a damp cloth or makeup wipe. It does minimize the rubbing and wiping and contains ingredients to condition your lashes
Invisibobble Original – The traceless Hair Ring: Full Size (3 pack) $8.00
I already own a pack of these in black. They are cute, fun and effective. I like the hot pink shade in this box. These pony tail holders were designed to minimize the pulling out of your hair, headaches as well as the kinks and dents that other versions can leave in your hair. I wouldn’t say that this product completely eliminates these issues altogether; but they certainly are better than most. Mine do get pretty stretched out and misshapen from securing my thick hair; but I do like the product. It definitely makes a boring pony more fun and adds a cool element to a messy top knot.
Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait Buttery Lip Cream in ‘Guilty Pug’: Full Size $19.00
Seriously; how cute is this pug themed lipstick tube? I am so glad I received this version despite likely preferring the shade in the alternate version. Getting to the lipstick itself though; per the description of ‘buttery lip cream’ I was surprised at how dry the lipstick was. It really accentuated all of the lines in my lips. The shade, that I thought appeared as a more neutral tone, swatched as a terra-cotta shade and appeared as such on my lips as well. Despite the initial shade shock; when I blended it in with my finger it didn’t look too bad on me. It will definitely require a lip treatment underneath prior to use though. I am bummed though, I was hoping for a moisturizing, every-day shade, because who wouldn’t want to pull this adorable product out of their purse to use several times a day? Another thing to note, and I wonder if mine is just defective, but it is nearly impossible to twist the lipstick up and down. Ahh well, it has a permanent home on my vanity anyway because that little dog makes me smile! 😉
so cute..
Swatch
Borghese Body Refining Polish: Deluxe Mini. Full Size $49.00
There were 5 different Borghese products that were placed in this month’s box: 4 different face and body mud tubes and the polish; which I received. I really like this polish/scrub, this version can be used on both wet or dry skin. I like to use it on the really rough areas of my dry skin, like my knees and elbows. It really sloughs off the ultra dry/rough skin while the oils and such it leaves behind keep your skin protected and ultra soft. It’s a great prep for self tanning and it has a nice scent.
I really liked this Glossybox and I’m glad that it stuck with a summer theme. To me; August IS summer. It’s the heart of it, often the hottest month of it and definitely when your skin could use some good summer pampering. I never get everyone’s rush to fall and farewell to summer. Go away; back to school, farewells to vacations, blah blah blah…at least give us until after labor day…that’s when I consider my farewell to summer and I send it off each year, in Santa Cruz, at the boardwalk. Thank you Glossybox for one last summer theme before I’m surrounded by pumpkin spice everything, fake fall leaves and ultra early hints of Christmas.. while I’m still swimming. 😉
