Birchbox September 2016

Hey Birchbox fans! ย Myย September Birchbox seems to still be sticking to products that fit my needs; and that makes me happy. ย What changes have you noticed in Birchbox since they made their big changes?

This Month I let Birchbox choose my goodsย as opposed to the featured box. ย I haven’t been real in to any of the curated boxes lately, they’ve been rather repetitive to me. ย I’ve been mostly picking the one sample choice option or leaving it entirely open. ย October’s ‘peek’ at the featured box has some pretty good items; but I’m real over glam glow and more than stocked on dry shampoo…so; I am sticking with the Tata Harper sample choice and leaving the rest to Birchbox again.ย  Still totally standing by the notion that Birchbox is making a really good effort at selecting products they feel fit the individual [since making the big points changes and such last month.] This is the 4thย month in which Iโ€™ve really noticed things like skin care for my acne prone skin, hair products for blondes and my hair type, shades I will actually wear etc. This month I received a favorite product of mine and a few well matched new products to try. ย Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts on Birchbox since theyโ€™ve initiated their changes.

The Goods:

milk-makeup-highlighter

Milk Makeup Highlight Stick in Lit: ย Deluxe Mini. ย Full Size $24.00

I love Milk Makeup and I love their ‘sticks’. ย The packaging is oh so cool and the ingredients equally so. ย With mango butter, peach nectar and avocado oils, this highlighting stick gives skin a subtle, dewy sheen and a hydration boost. ย I own three different varieties already butย this version is new to me. ย The formula is super smooth and the sheen is gorgeous. ย I did a swatch below of this highlighter next to ย Milk’s matte bronzer; a favorite product of mine.

avene-thermal-spring-water

Avรฉne Thermal Spring Water: ย Travel Size $9.00 ย Full Size $14.00

This hydrating mist is designed to tone, refresh and calm your skin but can also be used as a makeup setting mist. ย I use this stuff like crazy, especially during the hottest months in my dry climate. ย It’s refreshing and feels like it’s replenishing my depleted moisture levels. ย I seem to get less oily when I use this type of mist throughout the day; not allowing my skin to get too dry,ย resulting in more oil production. ย I also find this spray calms my skin from redness, itching and irritation, heat rash, eczema..things of that nature. ย It’s nice to have these on hand and the smaller sizes are really great for travel. ย Any time I fly it messes with my skin really badly, instantly drying it out. ย These are perfect to bring along.

beauty-protector-protect-blonde

Beauty Protector Protect and Blonde Toning Shampoo: ย Deluxe Sample. ย Full Size $23.00

I LOVE purple shampoo. ย It’s hard keeping blonde at a really cool toned shade and these shampoos work wonders at keeping brassiness at bay. ย I currently use Lush’s Daddy-o, but am really happy to get a product such as this in a subscription box. ย It’s great that it’s from a brand with some excellent products. ย This versionย does contain sulfates though…

klorane-waterproof-eye-makeup-remover

Klorane Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover with Soothing Cornflower: ย Travel size. ย Full Size $16.00

This is a nice, gentle eye makeup remover that bainishesย eye makeup easily, while soothing sensitive eye areas. ย It’s a good enough product but I have a huge stash of this stuff…and prefer the pre-saturated eye makeup removing pads from Simple Skincare.

the-organic-pharmacy-double-rose-face-cream

The Organic Pharmacy Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream: ย Deluxe Sample. ย Full Size $88.00

I’ve really liked every product that I have tried from this brand. ย This moisturizer has the natural rose scent and is very soothing to your skin. ย It’s designed to promote cell regeneration, soothe all skin types and even reduce broken capillaries. ย It feels a bit too rich for my skin to use by day, but it makes a good softening night treatment.

Thoughts!?

I wanted the Milk highlighter but picked my sample choice too late. It looks amazing. I got the lip and cheek tint instead and I actually really like it.

I’ve honestly loved every Milk Product I have tried..They are maybe, not for everyone; but I think they are pretty awesome. I do not have the lip and cheek tint but I’m crazy about the 4 other stick products I own from them. I had to purchase a second matte bronzing stick and I swear I almost never use anything all of the way up. But yea, I love this new highlighter. It’s unique to all of my others.

The first product I tried was the Sunshine Oil and I wasn’t impressed at all so I kind of gave up on Milk. Now that I’ve tried a makeup product, I want to try more! The bronzer and highlighter sticks look amazing. Have you tried their lip tint oil? I’ve had my eye on that for a long time?

Yeah…I thought that was just a basic oil, with a nice scent. Not using oil on my face it wasn’t much of anything for me. The lip tint oil is like a cross between and oil and a stain…and though the one I have looks red in the tube, it is more pink on. I like it for a minimalist thing…but it’s not a ‘I must run out and buy more’ item for me. I love the purple holo stick and the other (sticks). Their eye products and eye glosses are fun and their makeup is pretty cool.

Is that shampoo really purple? How does it smell? I had a Beauty Protector spray from BB and really loved the scent.

Yep! Super purple. Tones up blonde hair…or lightened hair that is brassy. It smells similar to the other beauty protector products..kind of sugar cookie-ish..

I’m really interested in trying out a purple shampoo. I am terrified that it will seriously change my hair color though. It is only slightly color treated and the rest is natural… what is your experience with the purple shampoos?!?!

Also, I would love if you would take the time to check out my new page for my blog. it can be found at http://www.thekristinreview.com

I will definitely check it out. ๐Ÿ™‚ Some purple shampoos are stronger than others; but in my experience as long as your hair isn’t super porous, you will be fine. My hair is all-over lightened and I keep it toned to a very light, really cool blonde. I use it any time it appears that my stylist’s toning is fading a bit and it keeps brassiness away. I’ve not had any issues with it altering my color or turning purple…but I keep it ultra cool as is so it just keeps it that way. Because all hair is different I would just try applying it to a color treated strand of your hair and one that is not, leave it on just a bit and rinse..before doing your whole head!

Isn’t it?! I’m a big fan of the brand, personally. BB has really upped their game in box personalization.

I hated that facial mist! My first thought was: seriously, Birchbox, you just sent me water in an aerosol can. I’ve been happy with other products though.

Haha! Really?! Honestly; that is how I felt about them when I first received one and knew of their existence. But if you get itchy or rashy..too much sun, something about it calms it right down.
