Glossybox October 2016

Today I will be reviewing my October Glossybox.  Last month we had: Secret Garden; a specially designed Glossybox inspired by September, ‘the month of fashion’, that was illustrated by Antonio Soares, known for his avant-garde, high fashion style,  The box itself was gorgeous, but for me, the products fell flat.  I enjoyed this month’s products more.  (There are generally a few variations in products) Read on and see what you think of this month’s products. Glossybox is a monthly subscription box that boasts 5 luxury beauty products each month, wrapped up in a lovely pink box.  The products are often full sized, if not; they are deluxe sized samples. The cost of the subscription is 21.00 per month with free shipping.

Glossybox has a classic monthly box but often does a special edition or collab/partner edition that replaces their regular box.  (like this, September version) These boxes generally have a unique box with special artwork or are labeled with the partnering brands/company’s logos etc. They are specially curated to fit the theme or contain some of the most popular brands/products spotlighted by said partnering brands/companies.  I get really excited for these boxes. The special edition boxes alone are often great for display or re-use in some way or another.  In addition to these unique monthly versions Glossybox also curates special, limited edition, [additional] one time purchase boxes, ie: Holiday, Mothers day etc. (you can scroll through the past boxes here -just scroll down the linked page a bit to view past boxes.) * If it does not have a month in the title than it is a special edition one time, additional purchase box, otherwise it was the box included in your subscription.

unani-il-luminate-milk-cleanser

Unani il-luminate milk cleanser:  Product is Full Size $18.00

I really like this product.  I do the double cleansing and the whole, very long, Korean Beauty based skin care routine, but the total oil based cleansers just do not work well for me; so I am always trying to find the perfect ‘first step’ cleanser.  Just prior to receiving this box I had been using a milk cleanser from Juice Beauty that I had been sampling from my birchbox.  I liked it as well and was contemplating purchasing the full sized, until I received this.  It is similar in texture and type, but I think I like this one a bit better and it’s full sized, so I will have more time with it to decide.  This product is recommended for all skin types and ages.  It is a gentle cleansing milk based on nutritious natural oils which helps remove makeup well, but doesn’t seem to clog my pores the way total oil cleansers do.  It also helps to purify and protect the skin by removing impurities (and makeup), leaving it soft and restoring its elasticity.
emite-makeup-lip-cheek-tint
Emité Makeup Lip & Cheek Tint:  Product is Full Size $19.00
When I first Saw this spoiler in September’s info card, I was a bit annoyed.  I was holding a red lip crayon from the September box and seeing yet another red lip product was coming next month.  Seriously; what is it with red!?  So many red lipsticks and nail polishes, one would think everyone was walking around with bright red lips.  Ok, rant over & it turns out, I love this product.  It’s a lip and cheek stain, so it’s super sheer and totally buildable.  I like the packaging and applicator and the formula works well for me.  It’s a stain, so it stays well.  I like dapping it in the center of my lips, keeping it deeper in that area and then blending it our toward the lip line.  It makes for a really pretty look.  It’s also super easy to dab a little bit on your cheeks for that natural flush.  What do you know?  This product was a win after all; but seriously, enough with the reds, Glossybox.

masque-bar-blemish-prone-mud-mask
Masque Bar by Look Beauty Anti-Blemish Prone Mud Mask:  1 Mask.  Full size is a box of 3 for $9.99
I totally thought this was going to be a sheet mask, based on the packaging.  I know that typically mud masks are ‘wash off’ but they do make mud sheet masks now as well, so I was surprised when I ripped it open and had white ‘mud’ all over me.  The good news is: there is plenty of product in the pouch and even wasting some, there is easily enough for two masks in each pouch.  The product is smooth easy to spread on your face and comfortable to wear for the full 30 minutes stated on the package.  It doesn’t get too stiff as it dries and is really easy to wash off.  I loved this mask.  My skin looked smooth, brighter and redness was calmed.  My skin felt a bit tight but once I completed my routine and moisturized, I was good to go.  Come morning my skin looked even better including the few blemishes I’d had that were fading, which are now nearly gone.  I liked this version of this masque bar mask quite a bit and it’s nice that you can grab them at Rite Aid/drugstores.  I also found them at Target, for a bit less, at $8.99.  Really great deal for 3 sachets that you can get 6 uses from!  If you see them, give them a try!  I will definitely pick up a box of these and likely try some of the many additional types (a couple of them are more pricey.)
decleor-aromessence-oil-serum
Decléor Aromessence Neroli Hydrating Oil Serum:  Deluxe Sample.  Full Size $73.00
I know that Decléor is a really well received brand and this is a pricey product so I was excited to try it.  Neroli oil is one of the priciest essential oils out there, due to the process of making it and all that goes in to it.  I love the unique scent of this product and though my skin has trouble with oils, I used it around my mouth area where I can use some major hydration and anti-aging properties in an area that I do not tend to breakout.  It softens and hydrates, feels and smells pleasant.  It’s pretty early to tell if it’s worth a purchase for me yet;  I have a lot of excellent skin care products, but I definitely like it and my skin seems to.  There are few oils that agree with my skin.  I plan to keep using it to find out and I also found a ylang ylang version (I love ylang ylang) and I think the two paired together might me perfect for my skin.  On my search I found this available right now at Overstock.com for $43.99 and saw that they have many spectacular deals on high end skin care.  I think it goes quickly though, so check it out!
strength-body-thickening-root-booster-bamboo-fiber-full
OGX Beauty Strength & Body Bamboo fiber-full thickening Root Booster:  Product is Full Size $8.00
This is the only product in the box that was a miss for me.  It’s not a bad brand, they have some great products, a huge selection and it is really inexpensive…it just wasn’t the ‘right’ product for me.  My hair is very thick and too much body.  This product is part of a new line and comprised of a lightweight blend of bamboo fibers and soy proteins, designed to thicken hair and give your roots a lift.

So; what did you think of the box?  I tried a new mask, and a new brand and the cleanser works really well for me.  Not bad at all…

All of the skin care products in this box were great! I was really happy with this month’s box. I’m definitely going to want to repurchase the cleanser and I will be trying more from Masque bar as well.

I thought this was a great box. The Decleor oil sample was fantastic. I really like the cleanser too. Haven’t tried my mask yet. I think I’ll do that right now actually and the lip and cheek tint, I don’t know it I will even try. But I’m going to get my mask on!!

It (Decleor oil) is a great product and I found it on Overstock.com for around $30.00 less. I’d really like to try the ylang ylang version as well.
