Hey Everyone!  It’s been a while; I know…so first off, my apologies.  December really owned me (well, every day just prior to Thanksgiving through mid January, really) and I’m currently in a total state of: Who am I and what am I doing?  I will be working hard to get back on track because I have plenty of fabulous things I want to share with everyone, on top of the many subscription boxes I typically review each month.  For now, let’s get things started with a newer beauty sub, one I’ve been receiving since its launch 3 months ago.  Because I missed reviewing this box in November & December; I’ll provide photographs of those months below,  following January’s review.

Ricky’s Cult Crushes is a monthly beauty box subscription.  The cost for this box is $11.00 per month, which you will be auto billed for toward the beginning of each month.  In my experience (thus far) it appears that there will be 5 products in each box that make up a kit, or specific theme.  The themes from Nov-Jan have consisted of: ‘The Perfect Lip’, a box consisting of products to prep, plump and create the perfect lip look, a glitzy box containing items to create a full on glam, party look and this month’s box, ‘Classic Cat Eye’ which contains everything you will need to create just that.

Inglot Eyeliner Gel:  Product is Full Size $15.00

I’ve heard great things about Inglot, but I believe this is the very first product from the brand that I have tried.  This in-pot, gel liner is designed to be applied with a slanted eyeliner brush and formulated with high intensity pigments to provide ideal coverage and long lasting, rich color, after just one application. The formula claims to dry in 60 seconds to a waterproof, smudge proof, and crease proof finish.  I thought this product was true to its claims and really impressive.  It was easy to smooth over my lids and produced a rich, ultra intense, black line, which I used to create the perfect winged liner look.  It did not smudge or budge and held on until I removed it at the end of my evening.  The brand boasts an impressive color selection in this formula as well; quite frankly, more shades than I’ve seen elsewhere.  I believe there are around 32!  I definitely recommend this product for those seeking a highly pigmented, smooth and easy to apply eyeliner that will last throughout a long day; including those that may experience sensitive and somewhat watery eyes.  Totally worked for mine.

Morphe Stiff Brow Brush.  $1.99

Ok.  So.  This brush is labeled on my Ricky’s info card, not as I’ve written above, but instead: Morphe angle liner brush.  I attempted to first apply the Inglot gel liner with this brush and OUCH!  I thought to myself:  “I constantly hear good things about Morphe brushes and Morphe in general, yet this is quite possibly the worst brush I’ve ever drug across my delicate eyelid”  So I tossed it aside, grabbed my go-to angled liner brush and moved on.  I wondered if maybe I received a dud or a faulty brush… until I looked up said brush by the number labeled on my brush, via Morphe’s own site.  M216 – Stiff Brow [brush]… well that makes much more sense (as I apologized to my eyelid)  I’m not certain if this was a mistake across the board, or if I am the only one that received a stiff brow brush instead of an angled liner brush intended for use with the gel liner.  If it’s the latter, I’m sorry to your eyelids as well.

There are no shortage of tutorials, methods & gadgets out there designed to assist one in achieving the perfect cat eye/winged liner.  Because achieving the lined eye I desire has never been an issue for me, I’ve never tried any of these tricks or tools.  This being said there’s clearly a market for such and this is why products such as these come to fruition.  The intent of this gadget is to provide a guide for applying your eyeliner when you have issues free-handing it.  The tool provides 3 different edges and comes with illustrated looks showing how to accomplish them.  Personally, I found it hard to use with my eyes and lids.  Maybe for those with large deep eye lids, sans any folds or wrinkles, applying a tool like this and tracing along the top will give the precise line of their dreams…but I found it hard to achieve what I wanted and when I finally did; it was easier to simply copy it freehand on my other eye than try to remember exactly how I had placed the silly tool on my first eye.  Might work for some but it isn’t for me.

Rickycare Travel Eyelash Curler:  $9.99

This little gadget is designed to curl your lashes with just a flip and a squeeze.  I actually prefer these little travel sized versions to the large metal, hard to store versions.  For some that may have stick straight lashes (especially if there are a lot of them) a higher quality, full sized curler may be necessary. For simply adding a bit of oomph, this little guy does the trick.

Velvet 59 My Fair Lashes Mascara:  Full size $23.00

Prior to this box I’d not tried or even heard of this brand but the specs on the box sounded promising so I popped it open and tried it right away.  The product promises a fast drying flake and smudge free formula with an innovative wand designed to create length volume and definition.  I’m really picky about mascara and with 1000’s on the market to chose from, I can be.  I have small eyes to begin with and my lashes are far from thick, tack on the fact that they are blonde too and I basically need a miracle product to achieve the lashes I desire.  There are two things that I have learned along the way that allow me lash success:  lash primers make all of the difference and the mascara mini’s that you can find from most high end brands are mush easier to work with. (when you have smaller eyes) Working slowly and coating repeatedly with this product, my lashes never really achieved much for length, but did gain some definition and an intense black appearance.  I did not experience any smudging or flaking with this formula so I decided to give it a second attempt the next day, under the lash primer I generally begin with.  The length and volume with this mascara were still pretty underwhelming in comparison to some of my favorite mascaras, and due to the extra length added to the brush to incorporate the ‘lash grabbing tip’, I found it a bit hard to use, especially quickly.  This mascara wasn’t a great fit for me and I expected more based on the packaging stats.

While most of these products did not ‘hit it out of the park’ for me,  I loved the theme and enjoyed trying everything.  The brush mishap threw me for a bit of a loop, but I absolutely love the Inglot eyeliner.  I feel like this beauty sub is a bit unique in comparison to the many others I currently receive and have received in the past.  I enjoy the themes and find it well curated.  For only $11.00 a month I think it’s totally worth it for anyone considering this box.
