Ipsy Glam Bag April 2017

Hey Ipsters! Welcome to another Glam Bag review.

This month’s theme is: Side Show

Step. Right. Up…

April Ipsy Bag

Such a fun design!

Ipsy is a monthly subscription service. Each month, subscribers will receive an awesome Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Members can watch and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using. All for only $10 a month.

I have been a member for more than 3 years and I absolutely love it. I have discovered so many excellent products through Ipsy! I may not always love everything I receive but for only 10.00 a month it is such a fun surprise to look forward to each month! Ipsy spotlights numerous brands each month and you will generally receive something from 5 of them! In addition to the products received you will get discount codes from most brands…even the ones that you do not receive! This months’ discounts include but are not limited to:  Sundays,  Winky Lux,  Hey Honey,  Biobelle,  Ofra, butter London, Ladykin,  Tarte Cosmetics and many more, the discounts range between 10% -50% off purchase (averaging at 20-25%) and are occasionally a dollar amount. They sometimes include a gift with purchase.

Ipsy also offers curated sets and other products throughout the month that can be purchased at a special price! I LOVE THESE! The current available options include sets from: Luxie Beauty & Dirty Little Secrets Cosmetics; check back each day as they add new deals weekdays at 9:00 AM PT and many of them sell out quickly.

Another perk is the point system. You can review your bag and items each month to save points for additional products! They are currently sold out of all point perk items, but check back often as they are adding new ones all of the time.

Ipsy also has a giveaways section. Every month, you can win AMAZING hauls from their Glam Bag partners..and let me tell you there are SO many great ones each month…This month there are contest/giveaways from:  ColourPop,  Glamour Dolls,  Peek Beauty,  Mint Pear and so many more!

So go ahead, take the beauty quiz, get your first Glam Bag, watch the videos, and create your own!

The Goods:

Glamour Dolls Lisa Frank Brush

Glamour Dolls x Lisa Frank Angle Brush: (Pre-Order) $5.00

This little gem is more of a ‘look how cute and nostalgic I am’ brush and less of a wow this is a great brush, brush.  To be honest I’ve not even used mine so I can’t truly attest to its quality; but I own loads of brushes in this exact type which are of high quality.  I’m glad I received it though as I was part of the original Lisa Frank generation, and it makes me smile.  I’ll keep it in the pretty little brush cup I purchased to house the gorgeous Tarte Unicorn brushes I’ve also yet to bring my self to use. 😉  This brush is a pre-order and only the first of many items soon to launch in the Glamour Dolls, Lisa Frank Collection.  While I couldn’t guess what kind of quality the cosmetics items from this line will be, (they are very inexpensive) I can see myself snagging the lip balms in the little slider tins because I loved those so much in the 80’s!

Mint Pear Vitamin C Serum

Mint Pear C Your Youth Vitamin C Serum:  Deluxe Sample.  Full Size $79.00

Mint Pear is a newer to me cruelty free, vegan friendly brand.   The brand empowers women and is on a mission to give back toward education, helping women around the world with a portion of their profits.  I was looking forward to trying this vitamin c serum; I recently received and used their collagen serum, which I really liked.  Unfortunately this product felt a bit heavy and greasy on my skin and broke me out by morning.  It wasn’t a good fit for my skin.

Jesse's Girl Eyeliner

Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner:  Full Size $6.99

I’ve seen this brand at Rite Aid, but never have I purchased anything.  I think I received a nail polish in a long ago Ipsy bag from the brand but that’s likely it.  Black liquid liner is an absolute staple in my beauty routine and I can barely remember a time when it wasn’t; so I have my favorites.  The brush tip on this version is good as was the staying power, it applied pretty well too.  It simply wasn’t as opaque or as intense as my favorite versions.  Overall, it wasn’t too bad at all.

Betty Lou Manizer the Balm

the Balm Cosmetics Betty-Lou Manizer:  Sample Size.  Full Size $24.00

Despite the Balm’s cheeky packaging, it’s always hard for me to get past the annoyingly tiny size of all of their ‘deluxe samples’.  I have a makeup bag full of them.  This is the first time I have received this one though and I can’t lie, I really like the shade of this shimmering bronzer.  It’s the type that really wakes up your skin when nothing else seems to be working for you that day, and you’re like ‘screw it’;  I’m going for a full on Charlize Theron 90’s bronzed look.  Wrong as it is, sometimes it just works.

No Poreblem Primer

touch in SOL No Poreblem Primer:  Deluxe Sample.  Full size $13.48

I tried a primer from touch in Sol long ago, a totally different version, that was thick and sticky, so I was not sure what to expect.  This type was lightweight but moisturizing and smoothing, nothing major as far as pore and wrinkle filling, but those types tend to clog the heck out of my pores and break me out anyway.  I liked it and apparently others do as well because it seems to be sold out everywhere.  I found it on Amazon though, link above.

Thoughts on this months bag and products?  It wasn’t a high value bag this time, or my favorite lot of goods, but the bag and brush alone made me happy enough.

You got some great items! And I hate tiny samples too. I got a shimmer shadow/highlighter and I couldn’t even get my brush in there 😒

I get really annoyed at the tiny blush, bronzer, and highlighters in my Ipsy bags. Too many of them are too small to get my brush in.

I know; they are all the size of a small eyeshadow pan. It kind of wrecks your brushes trying to use them as what they are meant for. I always grab my cheapies when attempting to try one of them. I typically never use them past that..but I’ve nearly used this one up b/c I actually really like it. I may grab the full size. I have some 10 offs and leftover birchbox points from before I cancelled the box. I think they carry this and it will be nearly free. 🙂
